RKO Advocates is a Kenyan law firm specialising in complex group litigation, multinational accountability, and cross-border disputes. We represent individuals, workers, and communities affected by large-scale corporate wrongdoing, delivering strategic, evidence-driven legal solutions that meet both Kenyan and international litigation standards while remaining focused on the people behind every claim.
Our experience spans large claimant groups, multi-jurisdictional litigation, evidence management, witness coordination, and collaboration with leading law firms across Africa, the United Kingdom, North America, and other international jurisdictions.
Addressing Corporate Harm at Scale
When harm affects thousands of people, individual claims alone are often insufficient to challenge well-resourced corporations. Victims frequently face practical, financial, evidential, and jurisdictional barriers that make access to justice difficult.
Group litigation enables affected individuals to pursue redress collectively through a coordinated legal strategy. By consolidating claims, evidence, and resources, claimants gain greater access to legal representation while ensuring that complex allegations can be presented effectively before courts, tribunals, or other dispute resolution bodies.
At RKO Advocates, we help transform large-scale claimant groups into organised, litigation-ready actions supported by robust evidence, effective claimant management systems, and strategic legal partnerships.

Proven Capability in Large-Scale Litigation
Kenya Emergency Group Litigation (KEGL)
Our involvement in the Kenya Emergency Group Litigation (KEGL) demonstrates our ability to manage complex, high-volume litigation at a national scale.
In this significant matter, we coordinated the collection and management of evidence from more than 8,000 claimants throughout Kenya, requiring extensive logistical planning, claimant engagement, statement-taking, document management, and coordination with international legal teams.
Managing Partner Ronald Onyango worked closely with UK-based law firms and litigation teams to support cross-border case preparation and ensure that evidence gathered locally met international litigation standards. KEGL remains an example of our capacity to bridge local realities with international legal proceedings.

Kenyan Tea Workers Litigation (Scotland)
Hugh Hall Campbell KC v James Finlay (Kenya) Limited involved group proceedings brought on behalf of Kenyan tea plantation workers seeking compensation for alleged musculoskeletal and repetitive strain injuries sustained during their employment on tea estates in Kenya. The claims were pursued in the Scottish courts against a company domiciled in Scotland, raising significant questions concerning jurisdiction, corporate accountability, and access to justice in cross-border litigation.
RKO Advocates acted in support of claimant coordination and evidence gathering in Kenya, including claimant registration, witness statement taking, interpretation and translation services, community engagement, and liaison with international legal teams involved in the proceedings.
The litigation addressed important issues concerning the appropriate forum for workplace injury claims involving multinational corporate structures. The Scottish courts ultimately determined that the claims should first proceed through Kenya's statutory compensation framework under the Work Injury Benefits Act 2007 (WIBA), and the Scottish proceedings were sisted while that process was pursued. The courts subsequently considered whether the Kenyan framework provided an adequate and effective remedy and whether the Scottish proceedings should be revived.
The case highlights the legal and practical challenges that arise in transnational litigation, including jurisdictional disputes, workplace rights, evidential coordination across borders, and the mechanisms through which multinational businesses may be held accountable for alleged harm affecting workers in developing economies.
As aspects of the proceedings remain subject to ongoing legal developments and appellate consideration, this summary is intended for general information only and does not comment on the merits of any party's position.
