Ronald K Onyango Advocates LLP (“RKO”) in collaboration with Thompsons Solicitors Scotland, was in court on 27 January 2022 before Lord Weir, representing over 718 tea workers in an application for Group Proceedings in Scotland. The case lodged on 29th September 2021 against James Finlay (Kenya) Ltd for financial compensation and medical rehabilitation of its former and current employees is now set to increase to thousands of other tea workers touching on human rights complaints and conditions akin to modern-day slavery. Patrick McGuire, a partner at Thompsons Solicitors which represents the Kenyan workers, said: “This is an extremely important day in the long fight for justice for the Kenyan tea workers”. Ronald Onyango, Managing Partner at RKO Advocates said that ‘there was a need to bring to an end the entrenched oppressive, inhumane and degrading treatment of Kenyan tea workers by multinationals operating in Kenya.”
